I wanted to wish everyone happy holidays from this basset hound!   Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.   Count your blessings and enjoy your family and don't forget to give your pet some extra love!   Happy Holidays from me to you!

By the way, my birthday is January 1st so I get to celebrate a birthday!  I am a new year puppy and will be two years old!  I hope to post more interesting coralations between the world of a dog and the business world in 2010.

My buddy is going to a networking event tomorrow and I was thinking how fun it would be to meet dogs with similar interests as mine and make some friends in the future.   Then I realized, DOG PARK!  I already DO network!   Everytime I go to the dog park I try to seek out the new dog and make friends altwith him or her.  I admit, I prefer the "hers" over "hims" and if she is another bassett hound all the better.  I think it is something tied into my genetics!  Anyway when you go to a networking event here are some tips from this top dog:

1. Mingle and play, well for humans mingle and talk to people you don't know.

2. Don't play to rough, well for humans don't be overly agressive and listen to what the person you are talking to has to say.

3. Be yourself.

4. Wag your tail.  Ok I guess that translates to smile and be approachable.

5. If you do make a puppy play date, or I guess a promise to make a connection after the event, follow through.

I am back!  I would say I have been busy, but in reality I have been napping like always living the life of a dog.   My buddy has been busy and seems to be on the computer all the time!  She is off to a meeting, so me and my pencil typing (I bite the pencil and hit the keys) are typing away while we can.alt

Today I have a gripe about co-workers.  This co worker doesn’t come in the office often but when he does he thinks he owns the place!   His piercing eyes will stare at me from across the room.  Plus he has a stupid name, his name is just "kitty" (yes he is a cat) Any real cat would have a name like Bob, Gus, or even Boots!  Not this guy, he is just "kitty."  Usually I just leave him alone but today HE did something wrong that "I" got blamed for!   In the breakroom we are not allowed to jump up on the counter.  I am not allowed to try and sniff up there and "kitty" is not allowed to jump up there.   When I was taking a leisurely stroll around the office and passed by the door I SAW him up there!  About 10 minutes later I am getting scolded at for knocking down the garbage!   Thankfully my buddy was there to let everyone know I was in her office and it couldn’t  have been me.   Did "kitty" stand up the problem and admit it was him!  No, he just went and rubbed himself all innocently in between his owner’s feet  trying to look angelic.  Trust me NO cat is angelic!

My advice toKitty the human readers is if you do make a mistake, admit it, learn from it and move on.  Everyone (and animals) makes mistakes and if you think you are too good, or too smart and a mistake will just go away, well most likely it will come back to you! To end today Teal’c blog, they found a bit of garbage near the window where "kitty" likes to lie in the sun!  Needless to say he is working from home again tomorrow!

altAs a dog, I get into trouble a lot!   I hate to say it, but it is in my nature to find that yummy left over in the garbage.  Can I help it if I had to dump everything else on the floor?  Shoes..... drool.... I maybe over a year old but I still love the shoes!  They are so fun to chew.   There are many ways I can get in trouble.  A big one for me, is barking when my buddy is leaves me alone.   All these and other scenarios get me in trouble.  The thing is, I dont' like being in trouble!  (who does?)  I feel bad and my tail goes down and I get a sad face and just want to be alone for awhile.  No one likes to be in trouble.   I have started to try and learn from my mistakes.  As a dog, if I do, I get a "good boy treat" which does help give me incentive to be good!  If I leave the shoes alone, and don't bark when somoene leaves, when they come home I get a better and big loving greeting.   Now when I do someting wrong and get a scolding, I remember it for the next time.I try to learn from my mistakes.  A few weeks ago I was scolded for pulling on my leash, since then I stoppped pulling on the leash and I don't get into trouble.  I learned from my mistakes!

As humans you too can learn from your mistakes.  If you do something wrong, evaluate what you did, change your habit, and if at all possible don't repeat the mistake!  We all can learn from our mistakes and implement steps not to repeat them.

(PS to this, I doubt I will ever learn to stay out of the garbage!)

altHi everyone.   My buddy has been busy and I haven't been able to get to the computer.  Today my buddy was on the phone taking a message for her boss.   I noticed she took the time to ask the caller for the correct spelling of the name and repeated the pronounciation to the person on the other end of the phone.  I did the inquisitive look that us dogs do, with big puppy eyes, head tilted to the side and then she explained that she wanted her boss to know how to pronounce the caller's name correctly.   No one likes to be called by the wrong name.   Now this is a problem that hits close to the dog house.   When people see my name, most of the time the call me T.. L.. C.. Teal'c.  In reality I was named by my buddy's dad, who likes the show Stargate and my name is actually pronounced Tealk.

I know why my buddy wanted to make sure her boss knows the correct pronounciation for the caller so he wouldn't embarass himself by calling the person the wrong name or pronounciation.  As for me, if we are at the park, or if we have visitors in the office and they go "Come here T.. L.. C, com here!"  I don't hear my name so ignore them.  Not on purpose, but that isn't my name!

I know how getting the name right is important.  So, if in the future  you are unsure how to spell or pronounce a name, don't be afraid to ask and mkae notes for others if you have to pass the name on.  I see my buddy getting my leash so I have to say until next time!

altHi everyone!  It is Saturday and I had a wonder time at the park playing with a ball.   My buddy wanted me to bring it back and just drop the ball so she could make me run for it.  HA I tricked her! I made HER run after ME to get the ball.   Once she was able to get the ball from me, she threw it again.  It was real fun.  The sun was out, the grass was green.   It was really nice to see my buddy away from the office.   She has been working overtime alot the last few weeks and then brought her work home her.    Maybe not her computer, but that is all she talked about all night, everynight.   She was getting grumpy and tired.  I would go try to get some tummy scratching and she would be all grumble and say not now.   Finally, today she let it all go and relaxed and got her mind off of work.

I think when you are tired, feel overworked, grumpy take time out and walk your dog!  If you don't have a dog, take time out for yourself and get your mind off of work.  It helps the stress and clear the mind and put priorities in perspective.  Once again, I can wag my tail and get the attention and love, not the grumblies!

By the way this was at the a basset hound waddle where I made other basset hound friends.

We are going for a walk any minute so this post will be a fast short one!  If you can, check out this video www.deskdemon.com/dnet/vid.php.  I am a jealous pooch!   In our office I am the only dog and though I do get plenty of human attention, if I was at this company called Purina, I would have co-workers that would understand me!   I have posted a few other videos about my compadres working in the office.   I hope you enjoy them.

This morning started out normal. My buddy and I took a walk, jumped in the car and went off to the office.   When we got to the office my buddy forgot to fill my water bowl. After the walk and the ride I was thirsty. So, I wagged my tail and whined a bit asking by buddy to fill it up. She just scolded me and said "I am busy, calm down" and went back to work. I could tell she wasn't listening to me.    I needed to drink some water so I turned up the nervous whining (the type of whining that annoys everyone around), wagged my tail, bowed my front paw and ended up with a howl/whine combination. She was on the phone and started to look at me like she was going to scold me again.   All of a sudden she looked at me and realized I was trying to communicate with her the best I could.   Then she calmed down, gave me a big pet and looked in my eyes and said, "What are you trying to tell me?"   Once again I did a nervous whine/howl and walked towards the bowl.   She saw it was empty, understood what I was asking and went and filled my water bowl.   When real thirsty water is so good!   After lapping up half the bowl, my buddy once again gave me a big pet and scratch behind the ears.   I have heard her say "active listening" is taking the time to really understand what is being said. Look them in the eye, really listen the message is, acknowledge you understand what someone is saying or in my case what a dog is saying!    I am glad my buddy tries to "actively listen."   Sigh, if only she could speak dog it would be so much easier.

I love cheese!  My buddy likes to keep her engery up in the day with a mid morning snack.   Today I was snoozing on my pillow when all of a sudden I heard one of my favorite noises, the sound of my buddy opening packages of what she calls string cheese!    After hearing the sound, the sense of smell evaded my nose!  Hey, I am a bassett hound and have excellent sense of smell!  I decided I had to go investigate the situation, so off to the breakroom I go.   What did I find?  My buddy was indeed enjoying a cheese snack.   Instantly I gave her the "eye".. you know puppy begging eyes.  It didn't work!   The cheese smelled SO good, I had to at least have a nibble.  My next step was, "shake."  I put my paw on her lap and once again gave her the "eye."    Woof!  It worked and I got a small strip of cheese!  It made my day!   I don't get snacks all the time.   My buddy thinks it is important to eat regularly and not skip meals.   She eats 5 small meals a day.  That gives me 5 chances for a snack!  She only feeds me dry food twice a day.  At times it gets boring.  She says for people, eating 5 small meals keeps your engery up all day for dogs, we have too much energy at times so 2 times a day works fine.  I think I will go take a nap and ponder how wonderful it would be to eat 5 times a day.

My name is Teal'c and I am a 1 year old spoiled bassett hound.   Everyday I get to go to the office with my best buddy and watch her work.   She was going to create a blog but didn't know what  say everyday so I decided to take her place.  Am I not the luckiest dog around?  How many dogs get left at home each day while their owners go to work!  Alas, it is not all play at the office.  I have an official function to provide tail wags and attention to anyone stressed.  I am a dog, so admit there are times, I am the one that causes stress! Hey, what can I say!  It is my nature to want attention.   Today my buddy is busy on the phone responding to an email that went out.  I think she spends most of every morning on the phone!  As for me, it is time to go stretch out on my pillow and take a nap.  Blog to you later!
